In what may be the world's stupidest move ever (or at least a tacit admission that Renault cars simply don't cut it), Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn says that Renault will stop manufacturing cars in China and instead focus on the Middle East. To this we say, "WTF?" In a few short years, China will be the world's largest automobile market, and Iran will still be...Iran. So what gives? This makes two bonehead moves for the previously infallible Nissan/Renault CEO: first the move of Nissan HQ from California to Tennessee, and now this. Amazing.
Way to go Renault. That'll show the Chinese! Good luck in Iran...

One of the reasons for Renault to make cars in Iran may be to the fact that Iran's domestic market and her export of cars to the neighbooring countries is on the rise.
Iran's auto production rose by 54 percent to 55,628 sedans during the first Iranian month of Farvardin (March 21-April 20) 2005, according to the Machine Building Industries Department at Ministry of Industries and Mines.
Maybe people that criticize this move should start their own car manufacturing company.

Well I am in china and there are citroen and peugeaux everywhere, it's a big hit over here. On the down side for renault, the recent events with Iran nuclear program, there will be certainly an embargo there soon. not good for business isn't it?
Well, I really beleive that it was the dumbest move ever made by a french CEO. Comparing the Chinese's car market with Iran's is also very foolish too. Guys, whether you like it or not, China is developing fast. If Renault don't act NOW they will miss the train. On the other hand, I guess Citroen and Peugeaux pray for Renault to stay away from china lol.

I'm from iran. in the many years, Peugeaut governed iran's market with 405, 205, 206.
i don't know any thing about chines market, but Peugeaut sold millions piece of car to iran. if you're true and citroen and Peugeaut are in china, i guess renault knows that they lost in china market.
and i heard renault isnt in american market, america can't impress the renault in embargo

That decision was awful. Let's leave it at the hands of the manufacturers.
